DÓMINA ZARA, AT UNIVERSITY

In her endless quest for BDSM's teaching and recognition, Dómina Zara® has been spreading her philosophy for many years.

For some time, she was a TV and radio guest, but her serious, professional and personal message was often manipulated (unusual exceptions aside) in search of an easier, wider audience.

However, her deep interest has managed to find new ways of communicating to smaller but more interested and receptive audiences. In this new approach, on February 9th. she attended the lecture 'Humiliation and Domination Relationships', part of the wider conference 'Reproductive Health and Sexuality', organized by the Catalan Midwives Association in the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. The issue was introduced by Dr. Olga Viñuales, Anthropology Ph.D., with some thoughts and analyses about human sexuality. As a sample, I would highlight her quotaiton of J.A. Nieto: "Anything which is not imposed, anything which is mutually consensual, may appear as plural, heterogeneous, changing and diverse, and that is not a reason to deny, 'medicalise', despise, label or stigmatise it." Then she introduced Dómina Zara® to the sixty midwives who attended the conference as a BDSM professional, someone who cares for and tries to understand every person who is into this kind of sexuality.

She started by making her slaves Dana and Robert read two e-mail messges which she had received that same week, with their answers. That encouraged the audience to openly ask about her job. Because of the conference subject, basically health, a lot of emphasis was put on the therapeutic possiblities of her visits and consultations. We mean therapeutic in a wide practical sense: many people who have tendencies, dreams or wishes more or less related to BDSM find out that they are not unusual at all, surely more common than most people imagine, regardless of whether they intend to carry them out effectively or just live them as a fantasy. However, Dómina Zara® pointed out that in the case that she considers someone to have a real problem or even a pathology, she advises them to see a psychologist or psychiatrist.

With the morbid curiosity that our subject arises, those present realised, and so they told us, that after this presentation they had changed in their minds the simplistic concepts and interested clichés which abound in society and which the media (ab)use because they fit in their own thoughless superficiality.. They also admitted that BDSM isn't either good or bad, it is just there. As in everything else in life, it all depends on how and who you practise it with. The interest in Dómina Zara®'s philosophy and attitude on the subject was so strong that eventually a visit to her School was scheduled.

I also wish to thank Dómina Zara® for her trust and the honour it was for me to accompany her in the event.
